Welcome back and reminders for Term 1

A Chairde,

Happy Friday everyone. It’s hard to believe that we are back 4 weeks to school and September is almost over. The children have settled back really well and all the classes are a hive of learning and activity. We are very proud of our Junior Infants as they have adapted to the new routine and bounce in every morning with no tears and eager to learn!!!

Despite the ongoing pandemic, we are managing very well and everyone is adhering to the COVID-19 measures which are keeping everyone safe. As you may have heard on the media this week, from next Monday, primary schools will not be required to send home pods or close contacts as per the attached note from the HSE and the DES. All our COVID-19 Measures are still in place and we will still be sending home children who present with symptoms/ sick. We would ask parents to continue to notify us of the reasons for their child’s absence. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support so far this year and ask for your continued support this year as we deal with the ongoing issues of COVID and school matters.

I have some important School Reminders to bring to your attention:

1. PARKING / DROP AND GO
Over the last month, we have noticed that the road outside the school and pathways are becoming increasingly congested. Everyone has a responsibility to drive and park safely on this public road. To avoid congestion and obstruction of traffic the Board of Management encourage the following:
•We operate a Drop and Go at the school if you are driving your child to school.
• If you are parking at the school, please reverse into the car park space so you have full visibility of children getting out of cars before you exit after you drop your child.
• Never drop your child off in the middle of traffic.
• Also, we ask that children are dropped off at the layby so they can get onto the path safely.
• Try to operate a one way system by coming down the New Road and pull in at the layby at the school gate and keep going to the Barberstown Road. This will ensure No U-Turning outside the school wall.
• As we are a Green school, we encourage the “Walk to School Initiative”. We are asking as many as possible to walk to school especially when the weather is fine.

2. ARRIVALS AND DISMISSALS
The yard opens to receive pupils from 9.05 a.m. daily. No responsibility is accepted for pupils arriving before that time. Classes will commence each day at 9.20 a.m. so pupils should not arrive later than 9.20 a.m. If children are late, parents/guardians must sign the children in the “sign in/sign out” book located at the main entrance. Please do not walk children to the classrooms once classes have commenced as per our COVI 19 Plan. The children are supervised by staff in the mornings on yard and go directly to their classrooms in the morning.
Dismissal of classes is on a staggered basis from 2.45-3.00 due to our COVID-19 Plan to avoid congestion and Pod crossover. Parents who wish to have their children escorted home should make their own arrangements to have them met at the school gate and the person to escort them should be at the School not later than 3 p.m. as the School cannot accept responsibility for looking after the children after that time. Children should enter and leave the school in an orderly manner.

3. CHANGES IN CIRCUMSTANCES
If there have been any changes in your circumstances: childminder, mobile numbers, collection arrangements, please let us know at the school. Parents must notify the teachers if there is a change in the collection arrangements for Child Safeguarding reasons.

4. ATTENDANCE:
We are obliged at school to record daily attendances. If your child is absent, please notify the school the reason for their absence in writing using the School App. Thank you. Absenteeism of 20 days or more are automatically reported to TUSLA.

5. SICK CHILDREN
If your child is unwell, please keep them at home. This refers to all illnesses, not just possible COVID-19 symptoms. We will ask you to take your child home if they become unwell during the school day. We cannot take any risks which could potentially put other children or staff at risk especially during a pandemic. Any child returning from an illness will need to complete both the “Return to Educational Facility Parental Declaration Form” and the “Absentee Form”.

6. COVID REMINDERS
All adults must wear Masks around the school vicinity at all times.
Please keep a 2m distance from others outside your bubble at all times.
Avoid congregation at the school gate and wall.
Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling unwell, if they are close contacts of a person with COVID-19, are awaiting a test or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

7. COMMUNICATION
If you wish to Contact the school please do so by phone or email.

8. School Closed
As a reminder, the school will be closed on Monday, 4th October to facilitate Staff Curriculum Training for the new Primary language Curriculum.

I wish everyone all the best for this term and if you have any concerns or questions, please let us know. We are here to help and look forward to continuing what we do best in Teaching and Learning at Scoil Bhríde, for the remainder of this academic term.

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Mrs. Colleran
